The Catholic War Veterans will be holding a national recruitment day at selected churches around the country on January 18 and 19. These dates were selected because January 20, a Monday, is the feast day of St. Sebastian, the patron saint of these veterans. No need to wait though, an application for membership can be obtained by merely asking me for one. Twenty-five percent of the military is composed of Catholics, but only eight percent of the chaplains are priests. There is obviously a crucial shortfall of Catholic chaplains. Besides the camaraderie of membership, one of the goals of the Catholic War Veterans is to ensure that active duty personnel have access to a chaplain. The Catholic War Veterans helps support the seminarian program of the Archdiocese for the Military Services.
